Castor oil is known from the era of the pharaohs. Side effects
When taking castor oil, we should be very careful, because of the toxic properties of the plant. Daily dose for adults is one or two tablespoons of 15-30 grams. For children, older than six years, the daily dose is one to three teaspoons. Probably you will not like its taste. It is advisable to be diluted with honey (1:1), also it can be added to fruit juice, coffee or other beverage. It is possible to be accepted by direct applying on the back of the tongue.
It is not recommended taking it often, due to the risk of addiction. It might cause nausea, vomiting and severe colic. There are possible skin irritation due to prolonged contact of the oil with the delicate skin around the eyes. There are potential risks of abortion in pregnant women. Excessive stimulation of intestinal peristalsis, may lead to uterine contractions. This is the reason why not to be taken by pregnant women.
